Department of Finance
The Department of Finance in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business offers B.B.A. degrees in Finance and in Real Estate Finance and Development.
Our graduate degree programs include a Master of Science in Finance and a Master of Science in Finance with a concentration in Real Estate Finance and Development. Our M.S. Finance programs are included on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s STEM Designated Degree Program list. We also have a decade-old Ph.D. program.
Finance is an applied field that studies how individuals, businesses, and organizations allocate resources over time and make decisions under uncertainty. This includes quantitative analysis of financial markets and financial decision-making using mathematical, statistical, and computational models. Techniques of financial engineering have become indispensable to a wide spectrum of business activities, including investment banking, commercial banking, corporate finance, portfolio management, risk management, insurance, and management and decision-making in the real estate industry.

Position Summary
The Department of Finance in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business invites applications for a Part-Time Lecturer to teach one section of FIN 3033 (Principles of Investment) for the Fall 2026 semester. This position is ideal for a practitioner with deep knowledge of securities analysis and portfolio management who is committed to undergraduate student success.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and delivering the curriculum for FIN 3033, which covers the analysis of financial assets, investment environment, and the risk-return trade-off. Expectations include holding regular office hours, managing course materials via Canvas, and ensuring all assessments meet the department's rigorous academic and AACSB accreditation standards.
Qualifications
A Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, or a closely related business field from an AACSB-accredited institution.
A minimum of 18 graduate-level credit hours specifically in Finance.
Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.
This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Certification: Active status as a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®).
Teaching Credentials: Proven experience in career-engaged, experiential learning, specifically in the instruction of FIN 3033 (Principles of Investment) or related investment analysis courses.
Industry Expertise: Significant professional experience in securities analysis, portfolio management, or financial regulation (e.g., OCC or Federal Reserve experience).
Technology Integration: Evidence of integrating financial technology into instruction, including proficiency with the Canvas Learning Management System and financial modeling software.
Student Engagement: Evidence of service related to undergraduate students, including competency development for the Finance Assessment of Competency Test (FACT) or mentoring students in professional certification pathways.
Evidence-Based Pedagogy: A record of incorporating active learning strategies or other evidence-based methodologies that improve student retention and engagement in complex quantitative subjects.
