The Department of Economics and Finance at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Finance in the area of banking and financial institutions, beginning September 1, 2027.

Maintain an active research program in banking and financial institutions, with publications in top academic finance journals.
Provide high-quality instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including new banking courses in areas such as community and cross-border banking.
Participate in the PhD Program in Business Administration by mentoring doctoral students and serving on dissertation committees.
Attain and maintain AACSB faculty qualification as a Scholarly Academic (SA) in accordance with the College's faculty qualification standards.
Serve on departmental and college committees and participate in community outreach, including close engagement with the regional banking community through the Banking Academy.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, tenure-track appointment. Salary and benefits are AACSB-competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Hiring decisions are subject to final budgetary approval.

Requirements:

A PhD in finance or a closely related field from an AACSB-accredited institution, completed by the appointment date, with demonstrated expertise in banking and financial institutions.
Strong evidence of potential for publication success in top academic finance journals.
Demonstrated capacity for high-quality instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Demonstrated competency in the use of artificial intelligence in both research and teaching, and a commitment to applying AI methods in the research agenda and in classroom instruction.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enthusiasm for outreach, and the ability to work productively with students from a wide range of backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications

Publications or advanced-stage working papers in banking and financial institutions.
Prior university teaching experience with documented evidence of teaching effectiveness.
Capacity to develop and teach courses in community banking, cross-border banking, or bank risk management.
Experience mentoring doctoral students or serving on dissertation committees.
Familiarity with the U.S.-Mexico border economy or binational banking.
